Custom Ultrasonics System 83 Plus
Custom Ultrasonics, now Wassenburg Medical is probably best known for their System 83 which was originally launched in 1981. There have been many improvements over the years and different models offering enhanced features and configurations. For instance, the System 83 Plus 9 is a dual chamber ultrasonic washer and disinfector for reprocessing 2-4 flexible endoscopes.
The System 83 Plus line of washer and disinfectors are standalone ultrasonic reprocessors. These models wash and high-level disinfect flexible endoscopes that are heat sensitive and fully immersible. Prior to the System 83 plus, one of the challenges when washing endoscopes was the many channels and internal, difficult to reach surfaces. Part of this issue was liquids and air taking the path of least resistance during the washing process which increased the risk of a less than appropriate high-level disinfection of areas of the endoscopes that were harder to reach. The System 83 plus handles this deftly by adapting to each individual channel making it possible for the medical technician to verify flow with its individual channel monitoring thereby avoiding bifurcating the tubing.
With its 19" stainless steel processing chamber, its alcohol flushing of channels and its automatic detergent injection, all areas of the endoscope are cleaned and disinfected.
Custom Ultrasonics Endoscope Storage
Custom Ultrasonics also offers a number of endoscope storage systems. After reprocessing / cleaning and disinfecting a medical practice's flexible endoscopes what do you do with them? It's critical that they completely dry, are not subject to external contaminants if they were just laying around and to extend their life conditioning of the endoscopes would also be a huge benefit.
After an endoscope is cleaned, the drying process is extremely important. If moisture is allowed to exist for any length of time microorganisms have the opportunity to grow. This is obviously unacceptable and the complete removal of all moisture from all channels of every endoscope cleaned must be successfully accomplished before the endoscope is set aside for storage. This need is what inspired the creation of the Endoscope Storage Cabinet model 2000.
In 2015 The European standard EN 16442 was released. This standard is focused on controlled environment storage cabinets for processed thermolabile endoscopes. The requirements apply to cabinets which are designed to store or store and dry and the intent is to ensure that during storage of the endoscopes for extended periods of time there is no deterioration of the microbiological quality of the endoscopes stored.
Custom Ultrasonics has indicated online that the EN16442 European standard was the starting point when they designed their drying and storage cabinets ensuring the highest standards of endoscope hygiene after reprocessing.
